Amplo CSR and Ahana forged a path for the Malohar women artisans, transforming their exquisite craft from a fading memory to a thriving source of empowerment and cultural preservation.
Our Goal
In Purulia, West Bengal, the Malohar women artisans face a fading legacy. Their exquisite metal crafts lack market access, threatening their cultural heritage. Our program empowers these women by reviving the art form, equipping them with skills and resources, and creating a sustainable market. This ensures the community’s cultural heritage not only survives but thrives, empowering the talented Malohar women for a brighter future.
Achievements
Identification and Upliftment :
We identified the Malohar artisans, many lacking official identification documents, residing in villages like Bonbohal (Purulia Block 1) and Raghunathpur (Manbazar Block 2). We initiated efforts to secure their documentation, enabling access to government benefits for themselves and their children.
Preserving Heritage :
Amplo CSR Team and Ahana have joined hands together to mentor these families and revive their traditional art of crafting daily-use and artistic items from molten zinc, brass, and copper.
Skill Development :
Resource identification and analysis are underway to conduct training workshops, enhance their skills, and adapt them to current market demands.
Financial Empowerment :
We are providing financial literacy training to the women artisans, with a focus on establishing bank linkages for improved financial management.
Sustainable Livelihoods :
We are collaborating with product development and marketing agencies to ensure the sustainability of their livelihood programs. This fosters collaboration and creates a path for long-term success.
Our Contribution
Empower women :
Equip them with the skills and knowledge to achieve financial independence and contribute to their families’ well-being.
Revive cultural heritage :
Ensure the continuation of these unique art forms for future generations.
Sustainable development :
Foster a self-sustaining ecosystem where the Malohar community thrives through their artistic talents.
