Amplo Global CSR, in collaboration with Ahana Foundations, INTACH, and the Hill Social Welfare Society (HSWS), has launched a program for women residing in the Lopchu and Peshok tea gardens of the Darjeeling district, India.
Our Goal
Empower and uplift marginalized women from the hill tribes of Darjeeling by providing sustainable livelihood opportunities through traditional handloom weaving.
Achievements
Empowering Artisans :
We partnered with local NGOs to reach women artisans residing in Lopchu and Peshok tea gardens to train them weaving dresses, shawls, stoles using the dying local traditional weaving techniques using traditional motifs.
Skill Enhancement Workshops :
Two successful workshops led by professional trainers significantly enhanced the women’s weaving skills and introduced new design techniques, ensuring their products can compete in a wider market.
Market Expansion Strategy :
We established connections with online platforms, prestigious state emporiums (Biswa Bangla), and artisan forums (Dastkaar) to provide broader market access for their high-quality, traditionally crafted products.
Our Contribution
Sustainable Livelihoods :
The program equips women with the skills and market access necessary to generate income and achieve financial independence, leading to a brighter future.
Cultural Preservation :
By reviving and promoting traditional weaving techniques, the program ensures the preservation of this valuable cultural heritage.
Breaking Barriers :
The initiative empowers women to break free from poverty and societal limitations, fostering self-worth and dignity.
